Jack Miner Foundation

Banding

ABOUT OUR BANDING PROCESS

Jack Miner started banding geese and wild ducks in 1909. In 1915 he invented his own catching net consisting of a 40' x 120' frame structure over water. As the ducks & geese swim under it to feed, two of the structure’s sides are dropped to safely enclose the birds.

Grade 8 students from the nearby Jack Miner Public School then assist in tagging the birds. Some geese have carried their aluminum biblical inscribed bands for over 25 years.

Browse our list of recovered bands on the left.  If you have found a Jack Miner band, please report it here.
